Maria & Gerard hosted their wedding at Westport Woods Hotel on Friday 14th June 2019 ; they have decided to share with you their top ten reasons to host their wedding here at Westport Woods Hotel.

Maria and Gerards Wedding Car!

Westport Woods has the perfect set up for a destination wedding. Gerard and I got married on the 14th June 2019, in Lecanvey Church and held our reception in Westport Woods Hotel. It was perfect, and this was thanks to Joanne and Michael, Caroline and Seamus and all the Staff at Westport Woods hotel, who made our day. In the months coming up to the wedding, no request was too big or small. Joanne was aware and very understanding that I had final exams coming up and timed any meetings/phone calls perfectly according to my schedule. Joanne is a jack of all trades. She was cleaning car oil (I picked up on the beach) off my wedding dress when I returned to the hotel! Caroline was very helpful and accommodated any request I had, and always came back with a number of options. So here are 10 reasons why we travelled from Monaghan and chose Westport Woods as our Wedding Venue.

Old Head Westport

1. Location, Location, Location!

a.       The grounds of Westport Woods are beautiful with its hidden paths and romantic walks though the woods and down to the lake. The reception area spills out onto a beautiful landscaped area, which is ideal for a summer wedding. Our guests really enjoyed milling inside and outside for the night.

b.      Westport is beautiful, located on the rugged west of Ireland, close to the wild Atlantic way, and an abundance of beautiful photo opportunities. Westport Woods hotel is located in a private wood on a lake behind Westport house. We got married in Lecanvey Church at the foot of Croke Patrick, and is located beside Staunton’s pub, the pier, Old Head Beach and Berta Beach.

c.       Our guests were delighted with a destination wedding, and took the opportunity to explore the wild Atlantic way that weekend, climb Croagh Patrick and cycle the greenway and potter through Westport town.

2.     The Staff

a.       The staff is Westport Woods are some of the warmest, friendliest, kindest people I have ever encountered. No request was too big or small. They have been there for years, a true testament to the hotel, and there is a real sense of family and pride among the hotel staff. All of my guests highly praised the fantastic service and hospitality of the staff of Wesport Woods. After visiting several hotels to choose our wedding venue, the warmth of the staff and the friendly vibe was a huge attraction to Westport Woods.

           .  Light

a.       Westport Woods hotel has beautiful natural lighting, and light streams from front to back and through the main atrium space in the lobby. The welcome reception area, the bar, the restaurant and even the function room are all beautifully glazed with views to the woods and the outdoor landscaped areas. We had viewed other function rooms with no natural lighting, and this seemed wrong to have our reception in a dark room for a summer wedding.

4.       .  Space

a.       Unlike other hotels we had looked at, Wesport Woods allowed us full use of the hotel, from the main entrance to the reception, the bar and the function room. Other hotels had limited us to one section of their premises (primarily the function room, usually at the back of the hotel) and away from the main reception and comfy seating areas. The wide variety of space suited our guests of different ages who didn’t like loud music, and some who needed to retreat for a while. The night before the wedding, we welcomed our guests from the expansive reception area, and everyone got to meet each other and settle in before the Wedding the next day.

5.       The food

a.       All our guests commented on the delicious food on our wedding day. Our guests had choice of starter, choice of main and choice of dessert, which we had chosen from an extensive list of meal choices. It was scrumptious from start to finish.

6.       The After Party

a.       Westport Woods offered us a pig-on-the-spit the next day. We had live traditional music in the beech bar, again all glazed and naturally light. It was as good as the Wedding day for us!

7.       The Rooms

a.       The rooms in Westport Woods are beautiful. We had use of the bridal suite for the whole weekend, and it was fantastic. Our make-up artist and hair stylist were delighted with the space and natural light they had to work with. All our guests with additional needs were granted and provided with accessible toilets, showers, cots etc.
