Walking

Westport is a paradise for walkers a charming, picturesque town nestled in between the shores of Clew Bay and at the foot of Croagh Patrick. The area is steeped in heritage and scenery, ideal for those who love to explore. From gentle strolls to challenging mountain climbs, Westport has some of the most magnificent walking trails. Most of the routes in the region are on small, quiet roads and trails, far away from traffic. You can walk for hours along these lanes and roads, in peace and quiet. There are routes that will take you up and down mountains and hills, along beaches and strands, and across seaside cliffs. All walks in the area will give you the time and peace to enjoy the awesome beauty of the area.

We will help you plan your outings and advise you on the routes. Some of the easier walks begin right at the hotel door and bring you down by the picturesque quay or along the disused railway line.

The town centre itself is a pleasant stroll away, take in the sights of the elegant tree-lined Mall with its stately Georgian buildings along the Carrowbeg River. Take a stroll up over the bridge and you’ll come across a collection of shops and cafes. Besides walking within the town itself, one can walk the more challenging Croagh Patrick Mountain, which offers truly magnificent views upon completion.

There are five assigned walks for the Westport Area to suit the ever day tourist to the adventurous hiker log onto www.westporttourism.com for further details.
